Monank Patel follows with 34, while Aaron Jones has 32 sixes. Saiteja Mukkamalla has hit 28 sixes, and Steven Taylor has 27.

Kumar and Shubham Ranjane, who remained unbeaten on 57, shared an unbroken 160-run partnership to guide the USA to a successful chase of the UAE's imposing 330/8, reaching the target with seven deliveries to spare. The result marked the second-highest successful run chase in League 2 history.

It was also the USA's highest-ever run chase in ODIs, surpassing their previous best of 294/7 against Nepal in Dallas in 2024.

The win lifted the USA to the top of the League 2 standings as they continue their bid to qualify for next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The USA now need just one more victory from their remaining fixtures in the tri-series to secure a first-place finish.

The USA have already secured a place in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier following their strong League 2 campaign, where they will look to finish among the four teams that earn qualification for next year’s World Cup.

The USA will be hopeful of reaching the 50-over World Cup for the first time if Milind Kumar can maintain his impressive form. The right-hander struck five sixes against the UAE, taking his ODI six-hitting tally past Monank Patel to become the USA’s leading six-hitter in the format.

Milind Kumar sets new record as USA script history in Dallas

https://www.gtcbharat.com/sports-news/other-sports-news/harmanpreet-delighted-after-asiad-gold-eyes-la-olympics-6807

Harmanpreet Singh delighted after Asiad hockey Gold, says India will keep LA Olympics target in mind

https://www.gtcbharat.com/sports-news/other-sports-news/harmanpreet-delighted-after-asiad-gold-eyes-la-olympics-6807

Tue, 06 Oct 2026 12:20:00 +0530

New Delhi: "It feels really great," India men's hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh said after returning to the national capital with the Asian Games 2026 gold medal, adding that direct qualification for

New Delhi: "It feels really great," India men's hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh said after returning to the national capital with the Asian Games 2026 gold medal, adding that direct qualification for the Los Angeles Olympics has given the team an opportunity to prepare specifically for the global showpiece.

The Indian men's hockey team received a grand welcome at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday after successfully defending its Asian Games title in Aichi-Nagoya.

"We've come back with the medal and we've qualified directly for LA [Olympics], so I'm just very happy," Harmanpreet told ANI.

India defeated Malaysia 5-1 in the men's hockey final to retain the Asian Games gold, completing a clean sweep for the country in the team sports after the women's hockey team also claimed the top prize.

Harmanpreet, who was also part of India's 2022 Asian Games gold-medal winning side, said the team would now use the time before the Los Angeles Olympics to address areas that need improvement.

"We'll make good use of whatever time we have. We'll focus more on the areas where we need to improve, and definitely keep the gold target in mind. We just hope the team shows the same form on a stage like the Olympics and does well," he said.

India's road to the gold included a dramatic 4-3 win over arch-rivals Pakistan in the semi-final. Harmanpreet scored twice in that contest before Abhishek struck in the final minute to seal India's place in the title clash.

Veteran midfielder and former skipper Manpreet Singh, who won his third Asian Games gold and is a four-time Olympian, said the team's belief remained intact even when Pakistan fought back from 3-0 down to level the semi-final.

"It was that we should do our best. Keep a lot of control over our emotions, execute our game structure and game plan, and we will definitely win. And this was it, to give our best from start to finish, that's what happened. We played quite well in the first-half. Our first half was quite good. In the second-half we made a small mistake where they equalized and it became 3-3. But even after that, it was about giving our best, playing until the very end. Even if it had went to a shootout, we had a good shootout players. We had full confidence that we will win," he told ANI.

Manpreet said the direct qualification for LA 2028 would allow the team to concentrate on improving itself rather than worrying about qualification.

"This win was quite important because we have already qualified for LA Olympics. So we don't need to think too much about qualification right now. So we can work on ourselves right now, on our fitness and the things where we can improve ourselves so that when we go to LA, there is no area where we haven't worked and everyone will focus on fitness right now," he said.

Midfielder Hardik Singh, meanwhile, said the Asian Games gold was particularly significant after India's disappointing World Cup campaign.

"It feels really good because since last year, our goal was to bring a gold medal at the Asian Games. But I think that somewhere, the World Cup was a bit of a disappointment for us. So that's why this Asian Games gold medal is very special for us," he said.

Hardik also hailed the women's hockey team's achievement after it ended a 44-year wait for an Asian Games medal by beating China 1-0 in the final.

"Big congratulations to the girls' team for their achievement which is currently above ours. Because in the 1980S, they won the Gold medal, and now after 40-odd years, they are getting a gold medal and they have beaten a team like China in the final. So, a big congratulations to them," he said.

The women's team secured India's first women's hockey gold at the Asian Games since 1982, with Lalremsiami scoring the decisive goal in the 10th minute. Both Indian hockey teams consequently secured direct qualification for the Los Angeles Olympics.

Defender Jarmanpreet Singh said the Asian Games gold was important for the team following the World Cup and welcomed the direct Olympic qualification.

"Feeling quite good because this medal was very important for us. Because after the World Cup, this was our next major event, and it was very important for us to perform well in it," he told ANI.

On the Pakistan semi-final, Jarmanpreet said, "We started the match with the mindset that we have to win this match and come out of it, and we have to stick to all our structural plans, and we kept playing in the same way until the last minute. Somewhere in the middle we lagged, it became 3-3, but even after that our team performed well and fought until the last minute, and the result is in front of us that we won that match 4-3."

Forward Mandeep Singh, meanwhile, said the men's and women's teams making history together made the campaign even more special. Mandeep is married to Udita Duhan, an Indian field hockey player, after the couple tied the knot in March 2025.

"It feels very good and we have won back-to-back medals. We have created history, so it feels really great. This is the first time the men's and women's teams have won a gold together, and it's a matter of great joy," he said.

India's men's hockey gold was its fifth at the Asian Games after previous triumphs in 1966, 1998, 2014 and 2022. The women's gold ended a 44-year wait, with the two victories marking the first time India's men's and women's hockey teams won gold at the same edition of the Asian Games.

With both teams now qualified for LA 2028, the Indian hockey players return from Aichi-Nagoya with their immediate focus shifting towards building on the Asian Games success and preparing for the next Olympic challenge.

Harmanpreet Singh delighted after Asiad hockey Gold, says India will keep LA Olympics target in mind

https://www.gtcbharat.com/sports-news/other-sports-news/sania-mirza-backs-djokovic-to-win-one-more-grand-slam-6626

"Best player in men's tennis that there is": Sania Mirza backs Djokovic to win one more Grand Slam

https://www.gtcbharat.com/sports-news/other-sports-news/sania-mirza-backs-djokovic-to-win-one-more-grand-slam-6626

Sun, 27 Sep 2026 17:00:00 +0530

New Delhi, India: Former India tennis player Sania Mirza believes Novak Djokovic remains the best player in men's tennis and hopes the 39-year-old Serbian can add one more Grand Slam title to his reco

New Delhi, India: Former India tennis player Sania Mirza believes Novak Djokovic remains the best player in men's tennis and hopes the 39-year-old Serbian can add one more Grand Slam title to his record haul.

Djokovic, who holds the record with 24 Grand Slam singles titles, has seen his schedule reduced significantly as he manages his workload and continues to compete primarily at the sport's biggest events. His 2026 season has included a run to the Australian Open final, where he beat Jannik Sinner in the semifinals, while he exited the US Open in the first round and subsequently dropped out of the ATP top 10.

Mirza, who has won six major titles – three in women's doubles and three in mixed doubles, was speaking to ANI on the sidelines of Niva Bupa's 'Walk for Healthy Cities' event in the national capital.

"Novak Djokovic, for me, in numbers, in the way that he plays, the way his body is, the way he is in general, is the best tennis player in men's tennis that there is. He's 39, so age is going to be a factor at some point with recovery, no matter how much of a superhuman you are. And because he's a superhuman, he's still able to be where he is. So, I really do hope he gets that one more Slam. I mean, that's what my heart's saying," Mirza told ANI.

Djokovic has remained competitive against the younger generation, including Spain's Carlos Alcaraz and World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, although the two-time 2026 Grand Slam champion Alexander Zverev has also emerged as another player capable of challenging the established order.

"I think Alcaraz and Sinner were the people in the last couple of years who had cracked that code, but also those were the only two people until six, eight months ago. Those were the only two people he was losing to. Then [Alexander] Zverev got the monkey off his back and has won two Slams now from having zero," she said. "Do I think that he'll get it? I don't know," she concluded (laughingly).

Mirza was present at Niva Bupa's 'Walk for Healthy Cities' event in New Delhi for the flag-off ceremony. The initiative, a relaunch of the earlier 'Walk for Health' programme, encourages people to adopt walking as a simple and accessible way to remain active and healthy. It has now been reimagined as part of the broader Healthy Cities movement, linking individual health and physical activity with a collective commitment towards greener and more sustainable urban communities.

Djokovic's 2026 campaign has also seen him reach the Wimbledon semifinals, where he lost to Sinner in straight sets. Zverev, meanwhile, won the French Open and US Open this year to claim the first two Grand Slam titles of his career. They took charge of organizing it, reached out, and I agreed. Today, such a huge tournament is happening at the Jalandhar and Mohali stadiums. It is a really big deal. I would like to request the people here to come out and watch it in as large numbers as possible," he added.

On being asked about the teams participating, he named, "India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Korea, China, and Japan." Bhola Nath is also excited for the India-Pakistan clash on November 1, saying that a lot of Pakistan players are Punjabis too and the matches between both nations is going to produce a "completely different atmosphere".

"Most of the players there (in Pakistan) are Punjabis too. When India plays Pakistan, there is a different vibe among both players and the fans. You will get to see the same energy here in Punjab. It is going to be a completely different atmosphere," he added.

Bhola Nath was appreciative of men's hockey team's consistent performances over last few years, including dominance in Asian-level tournaments and back-to-back Olympic bronze medals in 2021 and 2024 and acknowledged that the performance at the recently-concluded FIH Men's Hockey World Cup, where the team finished seventh, was not as good as expected. He nonetheless stays positive of India's chances of winning the gold at upcoming Asian Games in Japan, starting from September 19 onwards and achieving a direct spot in Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

"Sometimes a tournament just goes badly, whether it is due to overconfidence or some other factor. I have been a player too. There are certain days and situations that just aren't in our hands. My fellow players are great; all the players are fantastic. Just look at yesterday's results—our two kids won the Junior Asia Cup Men's and Women's Junior Asia Cup. And right now, you have the Asian Games in Japan. I am really hopeful our athletes will win gold in both the men's and women's events and qualify for the LA 2028 Games," he signed off.

The tournament will be jointly hosted by Mohali and Jalandhar, with matches taking place at the Olympian Balbir Singh Senior International Hockey Stadium, Mohali, and the Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium, Jalandhar. Jalandhar will host the opening ceremony as well as all league-stage matches from October 27 to November 2. The tournament will then move to Mohali, which will stage the semi-finals on November 4 and the final on November 5, bringing the competition to a grand conclusion.

On the occasion of tournament launch, Hockey India's Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh, Director General Cdr RK Srivastava, Executive Board Member RP Singh and Hockey Punjab President Nitin Kohli were also present. The tournament is set to feature some of the continent’s top hockey nations, with India, Pakistan, South Korea, Malaysia, China and Japanlisted among the participating teams. Oman and Bangladesh are the reserve teams.

The Men’s Asian Champions Trophy is one of the premier events on the Asian Hockey Federation calendar and provides a high-quality competitive platform for the continent’s leading teams. The 2026 edition is expected to attract significant attention from hockey fans across India and Asia, while showcasing Punjab’s rich hockey heritage and its contribution to the sport. With the tournament being hosted across two iconic hockey venues, the event will also provide an opportunity to celebrate the legacy of Punjab’s legendary players and strengthen the state’s position as one of India’s foremost hockey hubs.

“Punjab has a proud hockey legacy, and we are delighted that Mohali and Jalandhar will host the Hero Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2026. We sincerely thank and appreciate the Punjab Government’s support,” said Dr Dilip Tirkey, President, Hockey India. Lastly, India secured the Asian Champions Trophy title in 2024, beating China in the final. It was their fifth title and the tournament was hosted by China in September that year.
