First MacBook Pro With Touchscreen Support

The biggest highlight of the new MacBook Pro is the addition of touchscreen functionality for the first time in the Mac lineup.

Users can scroll through webpages, zoom in on photographs, move presentation slides, organise windows and interact directly with on-screen content using touch gestures. Graphic designers can use the display as a digital canvas, while musicians can play virtual instruments directly on the screen.

Apple has integrated the touch sensor into the display panel rather than placing it on top, helping reduce input latency. The traditional keyboard and trackpad remain available, allowing users to switch between touch controls and conventional input methods.

Tandem OLED Display Offers Improved Visual Experience

The new MacBook Pro features Apple's PROLED XDR display, based on tandem OLED technology. The display is designed to deliver deeper blacks, enhanced contrast and improved colour reproduction.

Key display features include peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits, a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1 and a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Support for P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces is intended to benefit professionals working with photographs, videos and colour-sensitive projects. Apple is also offering an optional nano-texture finish to reduce reflections and glare, helping users work in different lighting conditions.

M5 Pro and M5 Max Chips Power the New MacBook Pro

Apple has equipped the new touchscreen MacBook Pro with its M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. The chips are designed to handle resource-intensive workloads, including high-resolution video editing, 3D rendering, software development and AI-powered applications.

The laptop supports up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage, depending on the configuration. These options make the device suitable for professionals who regularly work with large files, complex projects and demanding creative applications.

Apple also claims that the new MacBook Pro delivers up to 24 hours of battery life. Actual battery performance may vary depending on the configuration, applications and usage conditions.

Dynamic Island Comes to Mac

Another major addition is Dynamic Island, a feature previously associated with Apple's iPhone lineup. On the new MacBook Pro, it provides quick access to Spotlight search, Live Activities, music controls and other important information.

Users can check real-time updates, interact with notifications, control music playback and access Siri AI features from the top of the display. The addition is intended to make frequently used controls and information more accessible without interrupting ongoing work.

Connectivity, Audio and Other Features

The new MacBook Pro includes several connectivity and multimedia features designed for professional use. The laptop offers three Thunderbolt 5 ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe charging and a headphone jack. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

For video calls, the device features a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera and studio-quality microphones. Apple has also upgraded its six-speaker audio system, claiming 50 per cent deeper bass for a more immersive listening experience. The new models feature a thinner and lighter design and run macOS 27, with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI capabilities included in the software experience.

A Major Change in Apple's Laptop Strategy

Apple's decision to introduce touchscreen functionality to the MacBook Pro represents a significant change in its long-standing approach to laptop design. The company has traditionally relied on keyboards and trackpads for Mac interaction, while touch controls have been central to its iPhone and iPad products.

The new model combines direct touch interaction with the familiar MacBook experience, potentially improving workflows for designers, video editors, musicians and other creative professionals.

However, with prices starting at ₹3,49,900, the touchscreen MacBook Pro remains a premium device aimed primarily at users who need advanced performance and professional-grade features. For everyday browsing and basic productivity, less expensive laptops may offer better value.
